Fairy Tale

This chair had the potential to be the most beautiful chair in all the land, but there was one problem. For years the chair had been locked away high in an ivory tower waiting on a knight in shining armor to come save it from its lonely isolation. It had been there so long its once beautiful paint had cracked and chipped, and the most luxurious fabric that had adorned its frame was long rotted away. Dust and dirt now covered the chair making it hardly recognizable from its glorious days as the fairest chair in the land.

One day a brave, noble, and handsome knight stumbled upon the ivory tower. His name was Sir Andrew Downs and he was on a quest. He was in search of a chair. Not just any chair, but a chair suitable for the Windows of the World Ball. This ball was the event of a lifetime where only the who's who of the kingdom was invited.  Sir Andrew had been searching for days far and wide and nothing he found was chic enough to be presented at the ball.  He was growing rather tired from his search so he paused inside the ivory tower for a brief reprieve from the hot sun. Once inside, an unexplainable force drew him toward the staircase. He began to climb the long spiral staircase and with each step he took he knew there was something important to be seen at the top.

Meanwhile, at the top of the Ivory tower, the chair still sat waiting for its rescuer. When something magical happened! Out of nowhere a man appeared! This was not the brave, noble, and handsome knight, but it was its fairy godfather sent to the chair on the day of its rescue. For if the knight had reached the top and seen the chair's wretched condition it would remain in the tower forever.  With one wave of his magical tape measurer the chair was restored to the glorious days as the fairest chair in the kingdom. But there was one condition… If the chair did not find its perfect match at the ball it would spend the rest of its chair-life locked back away in the ivory tower.

Sir Andrew reached the last step and opened the door. To his amazement was the most beautiful chair he had ever seen! He quickly snatched the chair, fastened it to his noble steed and rode off to present it at the ball.

The Windows of the World Ball was beautiful and full of the most elegant people and decor. When it was time for the chair to be presented a hush laid over the ballroom, for the chair was breathtaking. Everyone loved the chair, but was it too elegant for the likes of anyone there? Of course not! It was Mrs. Sally Jobe whose eyes met the chair and she knew that it was a perfect match.

Never too old to learn

I've always heard, "You're never too old to learn," and it's as true for me as anyone.  I'm learning about "Blogging" and up until now I couldn't have been less interested!

This is what happens when you surrounds yourself with young, smart, talented and creative young people and become part of their amazing new world of communication. You struggle to catch up, keep up and you marvel at the possibilities of which they speak in a language you do not know.

So, here and now Andrew Downs and company enters the world of technological communication. Even though I don't really know what I'm doing here's what I hope our blog will mean to you.

Our shop has just begun our third year and I've learned a lot in those two years. My young, wonderful staff and I spend our days on journeys into the environments you call your homes and I'm learning more each day that the journey is far more intense and mystifying than I would have imagined.

Each person who comes into our shop brings with them concerns from the color of a wall, to how to perk up a tired room, to how to hang art, to designing the interior of a new home and those concerns goes on and on. Each one of those concerns become personal to us regardless of the task.

Recently, we had a client bring in a friend who told us she had wanted to come in for about a year but she was intimidated by the shop and we can all sense from time to time that others react in a way that suggest to us they are uneasy.

We have worked and continue to work each day with the goal that our shop at the very least will inspire and at best will allow us to open a dialogue with you that will demystify interior design, brighten your day or even elevate your environment. That's what we do all day long.

So, we hope our blog will become a first step for us to get to know each other. If there is any way this blog can lessen your decorating concerns and make the journey on interior decorating your home a little easier and productive then the time I'm spending learning to blog will have been time well spent!

By the way, the friend who brought her friend is now a wonderful client coming along nicely in the redecoration of her home. Getting to know her, however, is as exciting as our working for her.

Duralee Fabrics is one of our favorite fabric lines and a couple of weeks ago our rep Jud Stone, dropped by to show us their new collections. The president of Duralee , Marty Rosenberger, just happen to drop in with him. That doesn’t happen every day!

One of the new groups, The Wainwright collection, sent us into a fabric frenzy and you can see it right now at the shop even though it isn’t available until June.

By the way... Duralee is 10% off everyday!!

There is a fashion to all things and there is nothing we will not do to make the point! At the recent "Art meets the Runway" fundraiser we turned an old chair into a piece of art and made a skirt of the fabric for Valerie Aldridge to wear as a show end-er and a show stopper.

There were more flowers inside homes in Broadlands than blooming in their gardens last Saturday. The annual Tour of Kitchens benefiting the Georgia Children’s Chorus took place and it was our job to turn one of the kitchens into an indoor garden or that’s what we did, anyway. It’s amazing what a little tree fern and thousands of daisies can do to a kitchen.
